Losing A Loved One, “It was tragic for me”

Please say “hello” to Chandler. Chandler is one of our clients, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and homelessness. He was recommended by a friend to our Oasis Program at Sound Community Services.

A child of four and the only son, Chandler moved down South for a few years to be the caregiver to his parents until they passed away. Like so many, losing a loved one, especially in a short period of time, can be traumatic and as Chandler put it, “it was tragic for me.”

When he got back to Connecticut, he found himself hustling, doing drugs, and getting in trouble with the police which ultimately affected him holding a job. Chandler states, “I lost my apartment, I was out in the street, I had nowhere to go. I went from couch to couch, bed to bed.”

Our Oasis Program has benefited him tremendously. They helped him get back on his feet. He has partaken in the talent shows, written poetry, he makes sure the Oasis Clubhouse has coffee and much more. He got a job; has food stamps, has health insurance, and our team in the Oasis has helped Chandler get temporary housing and they’re working on permanent housing.

Chandler has come a long way and he’s on track to a better, brighter future! We are proud of you Chandler!
