When Clients Become Our Teachers

Marissa Paniccia, IOP Social Worker, recently had an incredibly productive IOP group, called Relationship Declaration, that left a lasting impression with her.

Marissa asked participants to think about their relationships with others, themselves, and the world at large. She then asked the group members to complete the following statements regarding relationships: I deserve…; I have the right to…; I can…

The outcome of this thoughtful exercise was proudly displayed on the whiteboard. The number of insightful and moving statements was overwhelming.

It is moments like this that reminded us that our clients are often our greatest teachers and inspire us to be our best selves.
